Dr. Anwar Makeen

Dr. Anwar Makeen

President

Dr. Anwar Makeen is a visionary healthcare leader, entrepreneur, and innovation champion with a distinguished record in institution building, venture creation, and large-scale transformation. As President of Jadara Ventures, he provides overarching leadership, governance oversight, and long-term vision alignment, ensuring the organization operates with excellence, integrity, and sustainable impact. In his role, Dr. Makeen focuses on high-level executive responsibilities, including board engagement, executive mentorship, ecosystem partnerships, investor relations, and enabling growth platforms that position Jadara for long-term success.

Under his presidency, Jadara Ventures played a critical role in launching the first specialized healthcare accelerator program in partnership with Al Borg Medical Laboratories and Bridge for Billions. This initiative established a structured pathway to empower healthcare entrepreneurs, strengthen innovation capacity, and accelerate the development of scalable healthcare ventures. Dr. Makeen has founded and co-founded several pioneering initiatives, including national leadership academies, research centers, and enterprise transformation programs. He contributed to the establishment of the Healthcare Leadership Academy and the Public Health Academy in Saudi Arabia, building strategic collaborations with global institutions such as Stanford and Wharton to advance executive education and innovation excellence.

Previously, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and CEO of the University Hospital at Jazan University, where he led comprehensive institutional transformation-achieving national and international recognition, securing full academic accreditation, and advancing the College of Medicine to become a world-recognized institution. He also oversaw the phased development and operational launch of a major university hospital. Dr. Makeen holds a PhD in Health Systems Management from Tulane University and has completed executive education programs at Harvard University, Mayo Clinic, and Ochsner Health. He is widely recognized for his ability to operate at the highest levels of leadership-aligning vision, governance, and partnerships to create enduring institutional impact.

Dr. Sultan Al Mubarak

Vice President, Innovation & Knowledge Management

Dr. Al Mubarak serves as Vice President to empower innovative solutions and knowledge ecosystems at Jadara Ventures. He leads the company's strategic direction in enterprise development, knowledge translation into actionable practice, and value-creation initiatives. He is responsible for driving strategic partnerships, accelerating venture growth, and embedding creativity and forward thinking as core pillars of sustainable success.

With over two decades of leadership experience, Dr. Al Mubarak is a recognized authority in entrepreneurship, technology commercialization, and innovation system development. He currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Nominations and Remuneration Committee at Qomel Co. He previously chaired the Board of Jazan Development and Investment Company and served on the board and chaired the Nominations and Remuneration Committee of Batic Investment and Logistics Company-all publicly listed on the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul). Dr. Al Mubarak has held key executive roles in shaping Saudi Arabia's innovation and knowledge landscape, including Executive Director of Innovation & Knowledge Translation at the Saudi National Institute for Health and Executive Director of the BADIR Biotechnology Business Incubator at KACST. His work has advanced startup creation, research commercialization, and the implementation of the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Plan (NSTIP), fostering dynamic collaboration among academia, industry, and government.

He earned his PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo and had advanced training in research commercialization at Stanford Research Institute, World Bank and in Technology Transfer Office at the U.S. National Institutes of Health. An author in health innovation and a frequent international speaker, Dr. Al Mubarak is known for his visionary leadership, strategic foresight, and ability to transform knowledge into high-impact ventures and enduring value.
